Don't Get Weighed Down by Temporary Water Weight Gain

Health and fitness go hand-in-hand. They are so intricately related to each other that even a small disturbance in one tends to directly affect the other! Health implies a lifestyle which is carried out in a balanced way and is aimed at leading a disease-free life. Fitness refers to the state of your body and mind
wherein both are stress-free and relaxed. Fitness is directly reflected in the way you look-- your body shape and size.

All of us dream of getting a beautiful figure.

But often, due to over-indulgence and a sudden increase in calories our body may
bulge in some areas due to an over accumulation of fat. This results in "cellulite" that is often stubborn and slow to react to any kind of treatment.

Many believe that becoming slim will decrease their weight. It is not true in all cases. Slimmer people can sometimes weigh more than apparently larger people due to the weight of their bones.

On the other hand, even those who are on crash diets or other forms of weight-reduction programs can show an increase in weight. How and why does this happen?

The answer to this question is simple-when you follow severe diet restrictions, your body is depleted of fluids and water too. But, your body is smart and
it acts quickly to break down carbohydrates from all parts of your body and protein from your muscles and even replenishes some amount of water lost earlier. This condition of your body is referred to as "water weight". It is important to know real weight from
water weight.

The reason why water weight can be misleading is that it is not a permanent condition of your body. It is just that your system holds on to water and other fluids so that they are not completely drained off especially when you are undergoing weight loss rather rapidly.

Moreover, water retention happens in the cells that retain water and other fluids to make good the loss caused by a sudden decrease in your weight. So, don't be weighed down by your water weight. Look for ways to enable your body to regain its normal water balance.

Firstly, to tackle water weight, drink as much water and other fluids as you can so that your body gets a free flow of liquids and there is no need to collect them in some parts of your body.

Water loss and regain are continuous, automatic processes.

Next, minimize your salt and sodium intake as these contribute to water retention in your body.

The most common treatment or supplements for combating water weight are drugs called "diuretics". The function of these drugs is to flush out water and other fluid content that is retained by the cells and thereby remove that mysterious increase in your weight!
These include chemical diuretic like potassium. Also dandelion, in a dose of 10-20 drops of tincture helps in flushing out excess water and fluids.

Intake of coffee, black tea, celery, etc. needs to be reduced to avoid water retention in your body. Instead, you can include watermelon, grapes, cucumber, and asparagus in your diet.

Dong quai consists of essential oils that relax your muscles, intestines, and brain. Using essential oils like juniper, rosemary, germanium, etc.

in several applications like bath, massage, inhalation, and vaporizers helps to regulate water retention in your body.

Try to understand the amount of water your body is retaining, and treat it in a suitable way. Don't get side-tracked by an unexpected gain or stall in your weight loss program, as you preserver that stubborn water weight will eventually leave.

To Diet or Not to Diet and the Right Answer

It's that time of the year again ? the sun is shining, our mood is rising and we want to throw away the layers of winter clothes and with them the extra kilos that have somehow managed to sneak in again?Suddenly we are all ears for the latest diet out there. This one WILL work for us. This time we are more determined, more worked up. So we start big, armed with books, tips, gym gear, calorie counting and panting our way to slimness. And we get tired and mentally exhausted -not so much from exercising or calorie counting but from having to think about food all the time.

Diets can become very obsessive, mentally and physically exhausting. But what is more ? they create havoc with our metabolism. The more we diet the less efficient our metabolism is so unless we plan to keep this diet for the rest of our life, then we are definitely going to regain our pre-diet weight and even some more? The other thing about diets is that they expect us all to be the same and react the same way to...

Fight Fatigue with this Natural Remedy

Most doctors agree that non-specific fatigue can be exacerbated by modern diets rich in fats and refined carbohydrates. For a graphic example of this, you only have to watch 'Supersize Me' - the Documentary about what happens if you eat nothing but fast food for a month. Additionally, drugs, coffee (caffeine products), smoking and alcohol can make the problem even worse, even though most of these are usually thought of as 'stimulants'. If untreated, chronic fatigue can lead on to much worse conditions such as anemia, hypoglycemia, diabetes, hypothyroidism and even cancer. So how can one avoid fatigue, without resorting to un-natural stimulants? Here's a natural remedy you can try.

The herbs ginseng, lavender, rosemary and sweet flag can all help raise your energy levels naturally. Combine these with vitamin B complexes, vitamins C and D, as all of these have been known to help fight fatigue. The remedy is also improved by the addition of vitamin A, pantothenic acid, B12, folic...

Do Cellulite Creams Actually Work?

No cellulite cream can counteract the effects of a sedentary lifestyle, for instance.
Neither can a cream magically restore circulation or drop excess weight from a body that does very little and takes in more than it needs. The best lotions, the most evolved lotions, cannot make up for diets composed of fast foods eaten on the run and deep fried fatty concoctions with little or no nutritional value.Neither can lotions reduce stress for a body rigid with it and stress is often an element in the problem of cellulite.
Stress does not have to be physical to have very physical effects. No lotion exists that can reverse genetic inheritances or balance hormones reliably.
These are all factors in the formation of cellulite. So, now that we are clear on exactly what cellulite creams cannot do, we can move on to what they may be useful for.
Now you have them in perspective you may be less likely to believe advertising that tells you that you needn't move off the...

The Role of Nutrition in Preventing Dementia

A recent review of studies investigating cognitive decline in later life has drawn attention to the fact that many dementia patients suffer from a lack of vitamin B12 and folic acid.In a paper published by Ross Andel and Tiffany Hughes of the University of Florida's School of Aging Studies, strong evidence is presented that points to a connection between mental deterioration and low levels of these important nutrients. It is recommended that people make a point of including vitamin B12 in their diets by increasing consumption of foods such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy products. Supplementation is also very helpful, especially for vegetarians, and those over 50..

The Mediterranean Diet

The Mediterranean Diet is now recognized as one of the healthiest in the world consisting as it does of large amounts of fresh fruit and vegetables, salads, nuts, seeds, omega-3 rich oily fish, olives and olive oil and being comparitively low in dairy products and red meats. The people of the Mediterranean region, particuarly Greece and Spain, are very fortunate to live in an area where naturally healthy food is readily and cheaply available. The incidence of heart disease and cancer are lower here than anywhere else in the western world and experts now believe this is due in great part to what has become known as the Mediterranean diet.Modern farming techniques and world wide transport has changed most peoples diets dramatically in the past centuary and it is now widely believed that such changes have had an exteremely detrimental effect on our health. Fortunately the impact of these developments has not had such a catastrophic effect in Mediterranean regionswhere to a large extent traditional...
